The city councils of Elche and Armilla (Granada) have decided to cancel the scheduled performances of singer Beret after his arrest in Seville as the alleged perpetrator of a sexual assault that occurred last April became known. The two institutions have reacted within hours to the artist's judicial situation, adopting preventive measures in their festive programming.
In the case of Elche, the council has canceled the concert scheduled for August 10 as part of the ‘Nits de Festa’ cycle and has confirmed that it is already working with the production company to find a substitute artist. Armilla, for its part, has canceled the performance scheduled for September 25 at the San Miguel festivities, emphasizing its policy of “zero tolerance against any manifestation of violence against women”.
The decision comes after a judge in Seville decreed the singer's provisional release, imposing precautionary measures such as the prohibition of communicating with or approaching within 500 meters of the complainant, in addition to the withdrawal of his passport for three months.
Both councils have justified their position on the need to guarantee safe spaces at their festivities and on consistency with their prevention protocols, which include awareness campaigns and specific devices such as the Violet Points.
