The live-action remake of Tangled continues to take shape, and Disney is reportedly finalizing one of its key pieces: the villain. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kathryn Hahn is in talks to play Mother Gothel, the character who holds Rapunzel captive while exploiting the magical powers of her hair.
With Teagan Croft confirmed as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, the production's attention now turns to who will take on the antagonist role. Gothel is not a traditional villain, but a manipulative figure hiding behind a false maternity, a profile that fits Hahn's ability to combine charisma, irony, and darkness
Although Disney has not yet made the signing official, the possible choice has been very well received by fans, who see the actress as a solid option to play the character in this new version. In fact, for some Disney fans, it has not been a coincidence that the actress appeared yesterday at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards Gala with Melissa McCarthy to present the award for Best Male Actor (in television, limited series, anthology series, or TV movie), as the latter played Ursula in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid (2023).
For the moment, the project has no release date or additional details about the filming, but everything indicates that the main casting is about to be completed. Even so, fans of the actress do not doubt her versatile ability to move between genres (comedy, drama, or musical) after having seen her play the ancestral witch Agatha in the Marvel series: Agatha: All Along
