The return of Amaia Montero to La Oreja de Van Gogh this weekend in Bilbao was also marked by the emotion of Leire Martínez on the other side of the Atlantic. The singer, who is currently triumphing with her Aquella Niña Tour, could not hold back tears during her concert in Córdoba, Argentina, as the date coincided with the anticipated reunion of the band on stage in Spain.
In the middle of the show, Leire wanted to open up to the public and admitted that the situation was affecting her more than expected. “Today the tour of La Oreja de Van Gogh in Spain was starting and one thought it wouldn't affect her, but it does affect her”, she confessed emotionally before performing a medley with historical songs of the group such as 20 de enero, Cuídate, Puedes contar conmigo or La playa. The artist ended up melting into a hug with her musicians while the public chanted her name.
The former vocalist of the band also wanted to avoid any type of comparison with Amaia Montero and launched a message full of nostalgia and gratitude. “It's not about who does it better or worse. It has been 17 years of relationship and it's hard to say goodbye”, she assured, visibly affected. Furthermore, she thanked the affection received during all these years and highlighted that she never felt “anyone's substitute” within the group.
She deserves that hug multiplied by all those who support and follow her. We are never going to let her go. For those 18 years we lived and all those that remain to enjoy you and your talent Leire.
