The music stopped for a few moments at the Iberdrola Music Festival in Madrid, but the silence soon gave way to a massive ovation. Manuel Carrasco addressed the audience with a question that set the tone for the night: “Do I seem feminine to you? So what?”.
The artist from Huelva arrived in the capital after several concerts in Seville that, in addition to praise, were accompanied by comments on social media about his way of dressing. Some criticisms questioned his image with gender stereotypes, something the singer decided to respond to from the stage.
Before more than 50,000 attendees, Carrasco reflected on those messages: “It strikes me when someone says that dressed like this I look too feminine to be a man, or that I look gay or queer,” he stated, before posing his most forceful question: “Do I seem feminine to you? So what? Seriously, are we still there at this point?”.
The concert continued with a message celebrating individual freedom and respect for diversity, in a particularly significant context during Pride week in Madrid. The singer defended authenticity against prejudice and thanked the audience for their support. Manuel Carrasco then took his guitar to perform a version of “Será para toda la vida (Madrid)”, in which he underscored his message with verses full of vindication: “And who are we / To point fingers at anyone / If love is what matters most / Times have changed / And some still don't get it,” he sang with the intensity that characterizes his live performances.
The moment culminated with a symbolic gesture: the artist raised an LGTBIQ+ flag from the stage, on the eve of International Pride Day, thus closing a performance marked by the defense of freedom, respect, and diversity.
He visto a gente unida, cada uno con su lucha, con su historia y con sus ilusiones a cuestas. Pero todos celebrando la vida junto a mí y a todo mi equipo. Y eso me ha dejado una huella que jamás olvidaré.
