The Film Academy has approved the rules for the 41st edition of the Goya Awards, introducing stricter regulation on the use of artificial intelligence in registered productions and new conditions in the breakthrough acting categories.

The new rules establish that only works whose creative authorship corresponds to identifiable natural persons and in which there is relevant human intervention in the creative process will be eligible for the awards. The use of AI systems does not automatically invalidate authorship, provided that these tools do not replace fundamental artistic decisions or autonomously generate the final content.

As a transparency measure, all productions must submit a responsible declaration detailing the use of generative artificial intelligence tools, specifying the phases of the process in which they have been used and their purpose.

The Academy allows their use in technical or support tasks, such as process automation or the generation of reference materials, but imposes a particularly severe restriction on music. In the categories of best music and best original song, the use of AI in composition or in the creation of lyrics, as well as in any part of the musical creative process, is prohibited.

In addition, changes are introduced in the requirements for the breakthrough acting awards, limiting the eligibility of candidates based on their previous career in cinema. Adjustments are also incorporated in other categories and internal procedures, in an update of the rules that reinforces the debate on the role of artificial intelligence in artistic creation.
