The director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton, one of the key figures of Pixar, has left open the possibility that the franchise continues beyond Toy Story 5, whose premiere is scheduled for June 2026.
Stanton, who has participated in emblematic titles such as Buscando a Nemo or WALL·E, has explained that the creative process of the new installment has generated so many ideas that they could lead to new stories. According to what he has pointed out, even two months of brainstorming about the daily life of the toys have been enough to imagine material for more than one movie.
The filmmaker has pointed out that, although there is no official plan, the universe of Toy Story still has a journey ahead: the development of technology and children's relationship with toys offers new narrative possibilities within the same world. In his statements, he has affirmed that “Perhaps not with Bonnie as the protagonist, but with another character. That's why I believe it can continue”, which could lead to future installments such as a hypothetical Toy Story 6 or Toy Story 7.
