The weekly connection between Más de uno and Espejo Público has once again focused on the national political situation, with special attention to the possibility of a no-confidence motion against the Government and the role that Alberto Núñez Feijóo is playing in this scenario.
During the conversation, Susanna Griso recalled previous reflections by Carlos Alsina, in which the communicator suggested that the leader of the Popular Party would, in a way, be replicating strategies already seen in the recent past of Spanish politics. In that context, the debate about the coherence of an eventual "instrumental" motion and its fit within the current parliamentary arithmetic was brought to the table.
Alsina differentiated two levels when analyzing this type of movement. On the one hand, the level of principles, according to which any party that considers the political situation unsustainable should propose a no-confidence motion even if its chances of success are minimal. On the other, the strategic level, where it is assessed whether this gesture truly strengthens the opposition or if, on the contrary, it is more effective to wait for a progressive wear and tear of the Executive until the next elections.
In this strategic reading, the journalist considers the PP's intention to pressure the Government's partners and highlight the lack of a parliamentary majority understandable. However, he introduces a doubt when he perceives signs of openness towards possible conversations with Junts or the PNV to gather support for a hypothetical motion, something that, in his opinion, introduces a contradiction in the discourse.
Susanna Griso has clarified that "Feijóo is aware that the PNV will in no case approve this no-confidence motion, because he understands that he would lose, let's say, the support he has in the Basque Government, Navarra... but that Junts would be freer to do so. What happens is that the red line that Junts sets is Vox. They do not want to join Vox in any case because they understand that this would, possibly, cost them with their electorate".
In that context, Alsina pointed out that he understands Feijóo's strategy focused on eroding the Executive's parliamentary partners. In his opinion, demonstrating that these parties are calling for early elections while rejecting a no-confidence motion can have a relevant political effect. "It seems intelligent to me," he affirmed, because "it connects with a very widespread feeling in society" and in his opinion portrays the president of the government.
