Eduardo Inda has made one of the most controversial statements of the latest broadcast of Horizonte, Iker Jiménez's program on Cuatro. The journalist has urged the Popular Party to remain silent on pensions until after the elections on November 29, considering that addressing this issue during the campaign could electorally harm the party.

"They should shut up about pensions, the PP. Let them speak on November 30, December 1, January 10, when they are already forming a government, but before that, please, let them be silent," Inda stated during the debate. These words place the focus not only on the content of political proposals but also on the chosen moment to communicate them to citizens.

The director of Okdiario has argued that the party must measure its words before the elections due to the electoral weight of pensioners. "You have to be frank eight months ago, but now shut up about pensions, which are ten and a half million people with their different families," he pointed out.

The request is particularly significant because Inda does not suggest that the PP better explain its proposals, but rather that it postpone its statements until after the elections. His argument revolves around the impact this debate can have on a significant part of the electorate, at a time when the future of the public pension system is occupying a prominent place in the pre-campaign.

Feijóo's precedent with Silvia Intxaurrondo

To justify his position, Eduardo Inda recalled the tense confrontation between Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Silvia Intxaurrondo on La Hora of La 1, during the campaign for the general elections of July 2023. In that interview, the then leader of the PP assured that his party had always revalued pensions according to the CPI. The journalist corrected him live and reminded him that there were years, such as 2012, 2013, and 2017, in which the increases fell below inflation.

Feijóo initially defended his statements, but the next day he admitted that he had committed an "inaccuracy" when talking about the evolution of pensions during PP governments. The episode had a great political and media impact in the midst of the electoral campaign.

Now, Inda has recovered that precedent to defend that the popular party avoid pronouncing themselves on pensions before the next elections. "Let the PP shut up about pensions", he affirmed in Horizonte, where he asked the party to wait until after the elections to address this issue.
