Ernesto Ekaizer links Aznar's visit to Ceuta as a return to the spirit of Perejil: "You are not going to touch Ceuta or Melilla"

Ernesto Ekaizer has analyzed in Malas Lenguas the presence of José María Aznar in Ceuta coinciding with the Day of the Autonomous City. The journalist has linked the visit with the Perejil islet crisis of 2002 and with the image of firmness that the former president then projected against Morocco.

“At dawn and with a strong easterly wind. That is Aznar's slogan in 2002, when he decided to go to war with Morocco over the islet of Perejil,” Ekaizer recalled. In his opinion, the visit responds to the intention of taking advantage of “the Government's mistakes and the dramatic situation in Ceuta, truly dramatic” and showing a more forceful position against Mohamed VI.

“What Aznar wants to show is toughness against Mohamed VI,” said the journalist, who believes that the former president intends to precisely recover the role he played during that episode. “He, as a warrior, as, let's say, creator of that platoon that took the rock of Perejil in 2002, from July 11 to 12, 2002, wants to give that message: "I am the one from Perejil. I am here and listen, you are not going to touch Ceuta or Melilla",” he explained.

Ekaizer has also placed Aznar's presence within a broader strategy of the Popular Party around Ceuta Day. As he pointed out, the party is preparing different initiatives “in solidarity with Ceuta,” while Esteban González Pons has called a demonstration in Brussels. The journalist interprets these actions as a way of “continuing to use Europe against the Sánchez Government.”

During his speech, Ekaizer also questioned the explanations of the Minister of Defense about a supposed CNI report and assured that “the Minister of Defense lies, she lies openly.” The journalist has defended that an intelligence report must be classified and prepared in writing, indicating its recipients and measures aimed at protecting sources, although he admitted that the content of such a document can be verbally transferred to the President of the Government by the corresponding official.
