The elections for the presidency of Real Madrid have entered a spiral of announcements, denials, and accusations that is turning the final stretch of the campaign into one of the most unusual and surreal on record.
It all began this Wednesday with Enrique Riquelme's visit to El Hormiguero. During the interview, the businessman presented Erling Haaland as his great electoral signing and even showed a Real Madrid shirt with the striker's name, assuring that the player would end up wearing white if he managed to win at the polls.
However, the response was not long in coming. Both the player's entourage and Manchester City publicly denied any agreement. The English club denied that there is a clause facilitating the striker's departure and also warned of possible legal actions for the use of the player's image in the context of the electoral campaign. Added to this was a statement attributed to Haaland's father and his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, in which they rejected the claims made during the program.

Florentino Pérez's reply arrived just a few minutes after the end of the broadcast. The current president's candidacy acquired the first advertising block on Antena 3 after the program to broadcast a video supposedly starring José Mourinho. In the piece, the coach appeared dressed in a Real Madrid shirt saying only a "Yes", accompanied by an electoral message addressed to the members.
The advertisement was also broadcast on Telecinco, reinforcing the counter-programming strategy against Riquelme's appearance. The scene was interpreted as the confirmation of Mourinho's return to the Real Madrid bench in case of Florentino's victory in the elections.

💥 El anuncio de la vuelta de José Mourinho se ha emitido tras la entrevista de Enrique Riquelme en #ElHormiguero y durante #LaIslaDeLasTentaciones pic.twitter.com/9ub2qZhDF0
But the episode took a new turn hours later. According to the Portuguese press, Mourinho would have informed Sport Lisboa e Benfica that he never recorded that video with the Real Madrid shirt and that the images disseminated by the candidacy would have been generated using artificial intelligence. The information also coincided with other news that pointed to a supposed communication from Real Madrid to Benfica to pay the coach's release clause.
Thus, in just a few hours, Real Madrid's electoral campaign has gone from a supposed signing of Haaland denied by all parties involved to a controversy over the authenticity of the video with which Florentino Pérez responded on television to his rival. A media battle that, a few days before the vote, continues to raise the temperature of increasingly unpredictable elections.
Florentino Pérez's next intervention is scheduled for tonight on Iker Jiménez's program, Horizonte. We will see how the controversy and commotion around these elections continue.
