The Spanish platform Filmin has closed the acquisition of the distribution business of Elastica, one of the companies responsible for recent releases such as La sustancia or Backrooms, in a move that strengthens the position of both in the independent film market.
The agreement will allow Filmin and Elastica to join forces in the area of acquisitions and distribution with the aim of gaining weight in an increasingly competitive sector marked by the entry of new international players. According to both companies, the operation seeks to consolidate a more solid structure for the arrival of auteur films and long-running titles in cinemas.
Despite the integration in distribution, Elastica's production arm will continue to operate independently, maintaining its ongoing projects with full autonomy. This includes future collaborations with different platforms and filmmakers from the national and international scene.
The move is part of a trend of concentration in the European audiovisual industry, where alliances between platforms and distributors seek to strengthen the presence of independent cinema both in cinemas and on streaming services.
