Gonzalo Miró is preparing to take on a new challenge at Televisión Española. The journalist and presenter will expand his presence on the public channel with La cena de los idiotas (The Dinner of Idiots), a format that will arrive in La 1's prime time with a different proposal from usual talk shows: bringing together people who think very differently to discuss current affairs without turning every disagreement into a battle.

TVE has already started warming up with the program's first promotion. In it, Miró appears preparing a dinner while explaining what he intends to achieve with this new project. The title itself plays with the criticism that, as he admits, an initiative of this nature can provoke, at a time when public debate is often marked by confrontation.

"They say I'm an idiot for daring to organize these dinners," the presenter states in the video. "There are those who think I'm naive for wanting to bring together people who are ideological antipodes, people who, a priori, would never share a table and tablecloth." His response summarizes the premise of the show: "I am willing for a normal conversation without shouting to become a great weekly event."

This is how La cena de los idiotas will be on La 1

The program will bring together well-known guests from different fields each week, with opposing views on a current issue. The table will be the meeting point to listen to their arguments, contrast opinions, and address relevant topics from different perspectives, with the intention of moving away from the more usual dynamic of television discussions.

The proposal will have a house as its main setting, with a large dining room where the conversations will take place. TVE's audiovisual archive will also be part of the set and will allow debates to be accompanied by images and documents related to the topics discussed.

The kitchen will also have its prominence. There, moments before and after dinner will take place, with more relaxed conversations between Miró and the participants. The format seeks to take advantage of these moments to show another facet of the guests and foster less rigid exchanges than those of a conventional talk show.

A new challenge for Gonzalo Miró on TVE

La cena de los idiotas represents another step in Gonzalo Miró's career within public television, where he currently hosts 'Malas lenguas'. With this new space, the communicator delves into a format that combines current affairs, conversation, and entertainment, with the coexistence of opposing ideas as its main argument.

The program is produced by TVE in collaboration with Proamagna, responsible for other television formats such as Joaquín, el novato and Joaquín, la penúltima y me voy. The production company also has experience in projects carried out for the public channel.

For now, the promotion allows us to understand the philosophy and staging of the program, although it does not specify the premiere date or reveal who the first guests will be. The unknown is whether Gonzalo Miró manages to turn a dinner between people with opposing positions into a television event where the debate does not need to end in shouting.
