Ignacio Escolar responds to Julio Iglesias and denies that the women in the videos were actresses: "They are the real complainants"

Ignacio Escolar has publicly responded to the legal actions undertaken by Julio Iglesias after the publication of the investigation into the complaints of several women against the singer. During his intervention on La Hora de La 1, the director of elDiario.es defended the journalistic work carried out and denied one of the statements included in the complaint and lawsuit filed by the artist.

Escolar explained that the published information was based on the testimonies of the complainants themselves and rejected that the media had committed a criminal act or had disseminated false data. "Less criminal, not even erroneous, because we reported at that time, and at that time, and still today, these women denounce these facts, they try, they reaffirm these statements," he affirmed during the interview.

The journalist focused on what he described as "a lie by Julio Iglesias" included in the judicial writings. "There is something very important, both in the complaint and in the lawsuit, which is a lie by Julio Iglesias, a completely false statement he makes in the two legal actions he has launched these days," he pointed out. As he explained, the singer maintains that the women who appear in the videos disseminated by elDiario.es and Univision were actresses, a statement that Escolar flatly denied: "This is not true. The women who appear in those videos are the real women, they are the complainants. They appear, and they speak, and their words are exact."

Likewise, he clarified that the only modification made to the audiovisual material was the dubbing of the voices to protect the identity of the sources, a practice he defined as common in international journalism. "The only thing we did, and it has been stated as such in the information from the very beginning, is to dub their voices," he explained. Escolar added that this technique is recommended by media outlets such as the BBC because it offers greater protection than traditional voice distortion, since "the distortion that journalists used a few years ago to protect the identity of a source can be reversed, technologically now and even more so with AI."
