Ignasi Guardans warns about the situation in Ceuta and states that "all Ceutans have the right to demand a much greater presence of the State"

Ignasi Guardans has focused on the situation in Ceuta during his intervention in Hoy por Hoy and on the change in the geopolitical scenario during his intervention, where he defended the need to face the current context without downplaying its importance. The analyst proposed two possible ways to manage a crisis: minimize its severity to reassure the population or openly acknowledge the dimension of the problem. "I lean towards the second," he stated, before warning that the situation should not be interpreted as an exclusive problem of Pedro Sánchez's Government, but as an issue that affects the entire State.

In this regard, Guardans directly attacked the Partido Popular for presenting the situation as an exclusive responsibility of Pedro Sánchez's Executive. "If the PP thinks this is a problem for Sánchez, it is of cosmic stupidity," he affirmed. The analyst recalled that, even if the popular party came to power, Ceuta would still be in the same place and Morocco would continue to be its neighbor, so, in his opinion, the problem transcends any legislature.

Guardans maintained that Ceuta simultaneously faces a humanitarian, geopolitical, and security problem and questioned that the debate could become solely a partisan dispute. In his opinion, the international scenario has changed and Morocco is in a stronger position. "Morocco is emboldened and has Trump's support," he pointed out, while differentiating this support from the role that, according to his analysis, Israel may play. For Guardans, Spain must assume that there is a situation of vulnerability that requires a specific response and that it must be faced "by not closing its eyes to reality."

The analyst particularly emphasized the strategic peculiarities of Ceuta and defended that its geographical situation forces a different kind of attention. "Ceuta is not Cuenca," he affirmed, to explain that the proximity of Morocco and the characteristics of the city make its protection present unique conditions. In his opinion, the people of Ceuta themselves are fully aware of this vulnerability and the State must adapt its response to a scenario in which the relationship with the neighboring country may have changed.

Guardans avoided presenting the militarization of the border as the only solution, although he did defend a reinforcement of the State's presence and security devices. “All Ceutans have the right to demand a much greater State presence,” he maintained. In his opinion, the debate should be approached from a State perspective and not become an instrument of political confrontation, especially given an international scenario that he considers increasingly complex for Spain.
