Netflix has officially confirmed that KPop Demon Hunters will have a sequel after becoming one of the platform's biggest phenomena. The animated film, produced alongside Sony Pictures Animation, achieved record audience figures and generated a huge community of fans worldwide.
The new project will continue the story of the fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X, formed by Rumi, Mira and Zoey, who combine their musical success with a secret mission: fighting demons using the power of music. The first film mixed supernatural action, comedy, and musical numbers, which helped make it one of the most popular titles in the streaming service's catalog.
For the sequel, the directors of the original film will return, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who have also signed a creative agreement with Netflix to continue developing new stories within this animated universe. According to Kang, the success of the first installment demonstrates that “this is just the beginning” for the world of KPop Demon Hunters.

Although concrete details of the plot or voice cast have not yet been revealed, the new film will delve into the characters and expand the universe of the protagonist group. Due to the complex animation process, the sequel could take several years to arrive and some reports point to a possible release window around 2029.
The announcement confirms that Netflix wants to turn the story into a broader franchise, driven by the international success of the first film and by the impact of its soundtrack, which also achieved great popularity among the public.
