Javier Aroca responds in 'Malas Lenguas' to Borja Sémper's attacks on RTVE: "They are errand boys"

The statements by Borja Sémper about RTVE in his interview in 'El Confidencial' found a quick response on the set of Malas Lenguas. After the spokesperson for the Popular Party assured that the public radio and television "has become from morning to night a political platform" and affirmed that "when we govern, this must be reversed", the program opened a debate on the role of public television.

It was Jesús Cintora who first replied to Sémper, wondering why the PP does not apply the same criterion in the regional televisions where it governs. "Why don't they start, for example, with the regional televisions where the Popular Party governs? (...) This is a plural table. I watch some regional televisions, can they start there?", the presenter asked.

Next, Javier Aroca intervened, who was especially harsh with the popular leader's speech. "I believe that those who express themselves in those terms in the Popular Party are errand boys. That is, they are not speaking on their own behalf," he stated. According to the analyst, the PP "is bothered by the political information that is made on public television" because it was "accustomed to public television (...) being white fish and where all politics revolved around the private television duopoly".

Aroca maintained that behind these criticisms there are interests that go beyond politics. "I insist again, the Popular Party speaks on its own behalf when it comes to politics, but it speaks on behalf of others, it speaks for others," he assured, pointing directly to private channels. In his opinion, these "are suffering a very important challenge from an economic point of view" and, above all, "from the point of view of political influence", which, in his opinion, explains the attacks against RTVE.
