Daniel Calparsoro prepares his return to the big screen with El confidente, a thriller inspired by real events that brings together Javier Gutiérrez and Miguel Herrán in a story set in the last years of ETA. The film, which addresses the limits of loyalty and personal contradictions in a police operation, will once again feature part of the team responsible for La infiltrada, one of the recent reference projects of Spanish cinema on terrorism.

The feature film will arrive in theaters on January 29, after celebrating its world premiere at the 71st edition of the Valladolid International Film Week (Seminci), within the Official Section out of competition.

Javier Gutiérrez and Miguel Herrán, two men united by a dangerous operation

In El confidente, Javier Gutiérrez plays a veteran police officer, while Miguel Herrán brings to life the young informant with whom he establishes an unexpected relationship. Although both start from opposite positions and maintain different principles, the loneliness that accompanies their respective jobs will end up bringing them closer.

The film thus constructs a story of friendship, loyalty, and abandonment in a context marked by the anti-terrorist struggle. In the midst of a high-risk police operation, the two protagonists will be forced to cross certain lines and face the consequences of their decisions.

The cast is completed by Itsaso Arana, Emilio Palacios, Víctor Clavijo, Miguel Garcés, and Patricia Vico, who accompany Gutiérrez and Herrán in this new project by Calparsoro.

The 'La infiltrada' team returns to a thriller inspired by real events

One of the outstanding elements of El confidente is its connection with the team that promoted La infiltrada. The new film has a screenplay by Fernando Navarro and once again relies on documentation from journalist Pablo Muñoz, one of the project's references for bringing real events related to ETA terrorism to fiction.

The film is directed by Daniel Calparsoro, a filmmaker with experience in thrillers and action cinema, and proposes an approach to the anti-terrorist struggle from the relationship between two characters who, despite their differences, share more than they believe.

Six weeks of filming between Gipuzkoa and the south of France

The filming of El confidente took place over six weeks in different locations in Gipuzkoa and the south of France. These settings place the story in a territory closely related to the historical and police context addressed by the film.

The production is handled by Bowfinger International Pictures and Esto También Pasará, in co-production with El Confidente Films AIE and Lionceau Films, and in association with Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia. The project also features the participation of Atresmedia and Movistar Plus+, while Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia will handle its theatrical distribution.

With its premiere scheduled for January 29, 'El confidente' joins the commitment of Spanish cinema to stories inspired by real events that explore the personal consequences of one of the most complex periods in recent Spanish history.
