Javier Ruiz analyzes his interview with Zapatero on 'La Hora de La 1': the moment in which the former president came out most strengthened

The interview with José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero on Mañaneros 360 continues to generate analysis on RTVE. After conversing for more than an hour with the former President of the Government, Javier Ruiz dedicated part of La Hora de La 1 to evaluating some of the answers left by the interview, especially those related to the judicial investigation affecting the former socialist leader, in front of Aida Bao and Álex Barreiro.

The journalist explained that, in his opinion, the conversation can be divided into "two large blocks", differentiating between those issues on which Zapatero offered convincing explanations and others on which, in his opinion, questions still remain. "There are two large blocks in that interview. Indeed, there is one in which I believe he wins," Ruiz summarized.

That section, as he explained, corresponds to the Plus Ultra case. During the interview, Zapatero flatly denied having held conversations with Adela Cepi or having intervened in the airline's rescue. Ruiz recalled that this question was raised on several occasions and highlighted the firmness of the former president's response: "Zapatero emphatically assures that there are no conversations of his with Adela Cepi or about Plus Ultra."

For the journalist, one of the most relevant aspects was the former president's insistence that there is no evidence to prove these alleged communications. "He demands this. The burden of proof in Spain, and in any normal legal system, corresponds to the prosecution. He does not have to prove his innocence; it must be shown that there are messages," Ruiz explained, recalling that Zapatero defended during the interview that "there are none, nor will there be."

Javier Ruiz also drew attention to the evolution of the judicial investigation and assured that some of the elements initially incorporated by the UDEF have lost consistency. Specifically, he cited as an example the alleged offshore company in Dubai included in one of the police reports. "Some of the evidence marked by the UDEF is falling apart. A fundamental one, that offshore company in Dubai that turns out not to exist. The UDEF in its report not only cited it but said 'it is Landslide FCZO'. It does not exist, it is not real," he affirmed.

In view of these elements, the presenter considered that the former president emerged strengthened in that specific section of the interview. "In this, I believe Zapatero scores. Indeed, there are issues that do not hold up in that rescue of Plus Ultra," he concluded, differentiating this block from other matters addressed during the conversation that, in his opinion, remain open to public debate.
