Netflix and the creative duo known as Los Javis —Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi— are driving one of the most anticipated Spanish film projects of the year: the remake of Mi querida señorita, the iconic 1972 film that addressed themes of gender identity and diversity at a time when those topics were practically taboo.

The new version is directed by Fernando G. Molina, with screenplay by Alana S. Portero and produced by Suma Content for Netflix. The story follows Adela Castro, a woman raised in a conservative environment who embarks on a journey of self-discovery upon discovering essential aspects of her identity as she moves from Pamplona to Madrid, a narrative that maintains the transgressive spirit of the original.

The star cast is led by Elisabeth Martínez, along with Anna CastilloPaco LeónNagore AramburuManu RíosEneko SagardoyLola RodríguezMaría Galiana and Delphina Bianco, who reinterpret the characters through a modern lens that reflects current debates on gender and society.

This project marks a milestone in Spanish cinema by reviving a classic ahead of its time. The original 1972 film, directed by Jaime de Armiñán, was a pioneer in exploring intersexuality and gender identity in late Francoist Spain, and now its adaptation promises to update that perspective to the present times.

My Dear Miss is scheduled for its premiere in the Official Section of the Málaga Festival, on Sunday 8 at 10:30 PM in the Albéniz Cinema, where it will compete alongside other Spanish films, before finally arriving on Netflix.
