The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has once again attacked RTVE, which he has called the “regime’s television” and accused of not complying with the law, in statements made during an interview on esRadio.
During his intervention, Feijóo stated: “having a regime’s television, but a television that no longer complies with the law”, in reference to certain public media and their operation, in addition to questioning some programs and their audience data.
Given these statements, presenter Jesús Cintora defended the role of the program and pointed out that the PP leader, in his opinion, has a prior discomfort with the space after his interview with Silvia Intxuarrondo: “Feijóo cannot stand that he came to this house, he tried to lie”, adding that the program will continue to contrast any information it considers false: “if you say something that is not true, we will tell you that it is not true”.
Journalist Manuel Rico responded by placing the debate on the management of the Galician public radio and television during Feijóo's time as president of the Xunta, recalling the protests of workers due to information manipulation and assuring that “the workers of Galician television are those who have been protesting the longest against manipulation in the autonomous television of Galicia”. The collaborator concluded his speech by answering the question: “what is Feijóo's communication policy?”, to which he ventured to state emphatically: “We know it, it is proven. It is an extreme manipulation of public media, in this case public radio and television, and an extreme control, via subsidies, of private media. All the data is there, there is no need to imagine or suppose how it would be, how it would not be. You just have to see what he did for years in Galicia.”
In the same vein, analyst Gloria Marcos extended the criticism to other communities, citing the Valencian case and stating that in certain autonomous governments “they broadcast bullfights while there are demonstrations, school mobilizations”, in reference to the programming of public television in these contexts, which usually have low share ratings.
The debate thus led to a clash of visions on the independence of public media and their political use, with opposing positions between criticism of the current model and the defense of informational plurality.
