The Council of Ministers has approved this Tuesday the appointment of Marta Serrano as the new general director of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), at the proposal of the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun.
A career civil servant of the Technical Management Scale of Autonomous Organisms, she holds a degree in Law from the Autonomous University of Madrid. Since 2025, she held the position of advisory member in the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Culture and, previously, she has developed an extensive career in public administration, in areas such as the Ministry of Equality, the Ministry of Justice and the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP), in addition to international experiences in the OAS.
With this decision, the Government formalizes the handover at the head of the body responsible for the management and promotion of cinema and the audiovisual sector in Spain, integrated into the scope of the Ministry of Culture. The ICAA is the key body in state cinematographic policy, responsible for promoting aid, coordinating the industry and supporting audiovisual production, both nationally and internationally.
