Netflix is preparing a new series about the case of Daniel Sancho, convicted of the murder of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta in Thailand, and already has a protagonist: Martiño Rivas. The Galician actor will be in charge of playing Sancho in a Bambú Producciones production that will bring to fiction one of the judicial processes that have had the most international repercussions in recent years.
The first image of Rivas characterized for the role has sparked comments due to his physical resemblance to Sancho. The transformation is one of the aspects that most attract attention to the project, although the main challenge will be to bring to the screen a story marked by police investigation, the trial, and the enormous media exposure of its protagonists. The case, which quickly transcended Thailand's borders, has maintained public interest since the facts became known in August 2023.
For Martiño Rivas, this role represents a new foray into playing real figures. The actor already stepped into the shoes of Nacho Vidal in Nacho, the Atresplayer series focused on the career of the well-known adult film actor. That work required specific characterization and an approach to a personality recognizable to the public. Now, Rivas faces a character linked to a criminal event that has generated intense public conversation.

Leading the production is Bambú Producciones, the company responsible for fictions such as El caso Asunta, also available on Netflix and based on another crime that shocked Spanish society. The production company thus returns to work with a real story of great repercussion, although each case poses its own narrative and ethical challenges. On this occasion, the adaptation must find the balance between the reconstruction of events and the treatment of the people affected by them.
The new series joins the platforms' interest in real events that have occupied headlines and public debates for months. However, Daniel Sancho's case continues to have a judicial process, so it will be necessary to closely follow the evolution of pending procedures and possible legal developments that may occur before the premiere. It also remains to be known which other performers will be part of the cast, what approach the script will adopt, and when the fiction will arrive on Netflix's catalog. For now, the release date, the definitive title, and other production details are pending official confirmation.
