The sequel to the successful biopic Michael is already starting to take shape. According to what has been revealed on the podcast The Town with Matthew BelloniMichael 2 is in the initial development phase, with meetings planned among those involved and the possibility of starting its production this year or in 2027, depending on the schedule of director Antoine Fuqua.

Although Lionsgate has not yet confirmed either a release date or cast, the project starts with an advantage: approximately a 30% of the filmed material already exists, which would facilitate its development. The success of the first installment, starring Jaafar Jackson, has been key to accelerating these plans.

The first film closed in the Bad era, so this sequel could delve into the artist's most intense and controversial years: from the Neverland ranch to the 2005 trial, passing through his marriages, the iconic Super Bowl show or his growing conflict with the press. However, the biggest challenge will be to address the abuse allegations that marked his life, a delicate ground that already generated legal limitations in the first part.

Despite mixed reviews, the public has strongly supported the project: 217,4 million dollars globally, making Michael one of the most successful biopics in history. Now, the big question is whether the sequel will dare to tell the most uncomfortable and dark part of the legacy of the Rey del Pop.
