Antena 3 has presented at the FesTVal of Vitoria its new big entertainment bet for Prime Time: '99 to win'. The contest, produced by Boxfish TV for Atresmedia, will be hosted by Miki Nadal and Irene Junquera and will soon arrive on the channel's programming.
The format was unveiled within the framework of the FesTVal of Vitoria, where Antena 3 presented its main entertainment novelties for the new season. The proposal starts from a premise as simple as it is demanding: 100 contestants compete in a succession of challenges and only have to avoid finishing in last position.
It is not necessary to be the fastest, the strongest or the most precise in each game. The important thing is to survive each round and manage to stay in competition until the end. 99 to win is the Spanish adaptation of 99 to beat, a format created by the Belgian channel VRT and the production company De Chinezen. The contest has expanded to numerous international markets and already has versions in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Brazil and Estonia.
100 contestants and one single rule: don't come in last
The competition brings together 100 anonymous participants between 18 and 66 years old, who will have to face games of very different nature. Boiling an egg, calculating the weight of an animal or overcoming speed, memory, balance, coordination, observation and strategy tests will be some of the challenges they will have to face.
Contestants will compete individually, in pairs or forming teams, depending on each test. However, the elimination mechanism will always be the same: whoever finishes in last position is out of the competition.
Furthermore, winning a test does not provide an advantage for the next one. All participants start from scratch again, which means that each round can completely alter the competition scenario. The ultimate goal is to survive the other 99 contestants and become the winner of a prize of 100,000 euros.
Skill, strategy and nerves to avoid elimination
The variety of tests will be one of the main ingredients of the format. Participants will have to test abilities such as speed, memory, aim, logic, intuition or precision, but they will also have to know how to manage pressure and make decisions quickly.
In some of the tests, furthermore, strategy will play a fundamental role. Contestants will be able to establish temporary alliances or collaborate with other participants, although all ultimately pursue the same objective: to remain in the competition.
The format thus seeks to combine humorous situations with moments of tension, precisely leveraging the simplicity of its rule. An apparently small error can turn any of the participants into the next eliminated.
The diversity of the contestants will be another central element of the program. People of different ages, professions, backgrounds, and lifestyles will have to face the same challenges, without prior preparation necessarily guaranteeing an advantage.
Miki Nadal and Irene Junquera, at the helm of the new format
Antena 3 will feature Miki Nadal and Irene Junquera for this new venture, who will act as masters of ceremonies for a contest designed to combine competition, spectacle, and entertainment.
The presentation of '99 para ganar' at the FesTVal de Vitoria represents the format's first major showcase before its arrival on the small screen. The channel thus incorporates a new production into its Prime Time entertainment strategy, with a large-scale contest that has already proven its international reach.
With '99 para ganar', Antena 3 bets on a competition where the best doesn't always win: whoever manages not to be the last survives.
