International cinema adds a new high-profile project with Jonathan Bailey and Natalie Portman as protagonists of Pumping Black, the new thriller produced by the company Anton, a well-known independent studio specializing in global-scope films and series with commercial ambition.
The film, directed by Mimi Cave, delves into the world of elite cycling competition, an environment marked by pressure, ambition and the physical and psychological limits of athletes. The project combines drama and suspense in a context of high sporting demand, placing the story in a universe as competitive as it is visually powerful. The story follows Taylor Mace, a 35-year-old cyclist who begins to fall out of elite sport and who finds unexpected support in Andrea Lathe, a doctor with an ambition as intense as it is dangerous. As the race towards the Tour de France progresses, the protagonist is forced to make increasingly extreme decisions to protect a secret that threatens to destroy everything. The film has been described as a thriller “charged with adrenaline” and is compared to titles such as ‘Whiplash’ and ‘Black Swan’ for its psychological approach and emotional intensity.
The film is produced by Stacey Sher (Shiny Penny), director herself Mimi Cave, Sébastien Raybaud (Anton) and the company Mountain A, led by Natalie Portman and Sophie Mas, with full financing from Anton and filming scheduled for the fall.
According to the information advanced by Variety, the film is already generating interest in the industry and will be presented within the framework of the Cannes market, where it will seek to close international distribution agreements. The choice of its protagonists reinforces the bet for a title of great global reach.
