Cadena SER has dismissed Guillermo Rodríguez as news director just 24 hours after Àngels Barceló's farewell from Hoy por Hoy, in a decision communicated by the station's content director, Fran Llorente, to both the journalist himself and the newsroom.

Rodríguez had taken office in May 2021 as part of a broad renovation of the Prisa group's radio management. He came from The Huffington Post, where he served as director for three years, and assumed responsibility for coordinating the chain's news services.

The dismissal occurs in a context of significant internal changes at SER, coinciding with Barceló's departure after more than two decades at the station and the beginning of a new stage in programming. In this same process, the chain has also announced other relevant moves, such as the replacement of Aimar Bretos in Hora 25, which will pass into the hands of José Luis Sastre.

The restructuring thus marks a turning point in Prisa's generalist radio, which faces the new season with a profound renovation in its main news and analysis spaces.
