October is here and it's ready to turn the sofa and movie theaters into the perfect refuge for the first weeks of autumn. The month of Halloween comes loaded with premieres, with new seasons, adaptations of great classics, horror movies and some of the most anticipated blockbusters of the final stretch of the year.
Among the platforms, the returns of Reina Roja and Dexter, the new Carrie by Mike Flanagan and Crystal Lake, the prequel to Friday the 13th, stand out. In theaters, October kicks off with top-tier names: Tom Cruise and Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, Jason Momoa or the return of the Avatar universe.
Big names to open October: from 'Reina Roja' and 'Verity' to 'Avatar'
Prime Video opens the month on October 2 with the second season of Reina Roja. Victoria Luengo once again steps into the shoes of Antonia Scott, the woman with the highest IQ in the world, to face a new investigation marked by mystery and danger.
The fiction once again delves into the universe created by Juan Gómez-Jurado and becomes one of the platform's main Spanish bets for this autumn.
That same day, theaters will receive Verity. The Shadow of a Deception, the psychological thriller by Michael Showalter starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. The film adapts the novel by Colleen Hoover and follows a writer who arrives at an apparently quiet house only to discover that behind its walls there is much more than she expected.
Also on October 2 will arrive Digger, the new film by Alejandro G. Iñárritu with Tom Cruise, while a week later, on October 9, it will be the turn of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which brings back Aang and the rest of the protagonists now as young adults.
That same day will arrive The Price of the Net, the new drama directed by Aaron Sorkin about Frances Haugen, the engineer who exposed confidential information from Facebook.
And there will still be more big names in October: on October 16 will land in theaters Street Fighter, a new adaptation of the mythical fighting video game with Jason Momoa among its main attractions.
From the return of Oasis to 'VisionQuest': October is also a month of reunions
Disney+ will have one of its big events on October 9 with Don't Look Back In Anger, the documentary that covers Oasis's 2025 world tour.
The great attraction lies in the joint interviews of Liam and Noel Gallagher, who appear together again before the cameras after two decades marked by their public confrontations. The documentary combines these conversations with images from the tour concerts.
Five days later, on October 14, VisionQuest, the new series starring Paul Bettany, will arrive. Vision tries to find new meaning in his existence while confronting his own past and the artificial intelligences that are part of his programming.
Halloween moves up its arrival: 'Carrie', 'Crystal Lake' and 'Dexter' share the spotlight
Horror will gain ground as the month progresses. On October 7, Prime Video will premiere Carrie, the new adaptation of Stephen King's classic, turned into a series and directed by Mike Flanagan. The story once again places Carrie White at the center of a life marked by isolation, a dominant mother, and telekinetic powers she is just beginning to understand.
On October 16, another of the great titles of the genre will arrive: Crystal Lake, the prequel to Friday the 13th on HBO Max that travels to the origins of the mythical camp and the legend that would end up turning it into one of the most recognizable places in horror cinema.
Prime Video will save Apocalipsis Z: Nuevo mundo for October 30, while SkyShowtime will close the month on October 31 with the second season of Dexter: Resurrección, again with Michael C. Hall in the role of Dexter Morgan.
Spanish cinema also wants its share of autumn
National production will have several proper names during October. On October 16, Sacamantecas, starring Antonio de la Torre and Patricia López Arnaiz, will arrive, while on the 23rd it will be the turn of Clayface, one of the great bets of the DC universe.
The Spanish billboard will also include La maleta, by Carlos Therón, El mal hijo, Jaime Lorente's directorial debut, and Karateka, the biopic about Olympic champion Sandra Sánchez, scheduled for October 30.
And among the titles that continue their run in theaters appears La bola negra, the film by Los Javis, which continues its journey after its passage through festivals and its arrival on the Spanish billboard.
Horror multiplies in theaters and on platforms
The horror calendar goes far beyond Carrie and Crystal Lake. In cinemas, on October 9, La otra madre and Su propio infierno will arrive; on the 16th, Beware Boiúna and Nightborn; on the 23rd, Clayface; and on the 30th, Leviticus, Hope and Onslaught.
Netflix will open October with a real battery of titles: on October 1, The Last Late Night, Good Boy, Soft & Quiet, The Shrouds, The Soul Eater, Fréwaka, and She Will are available. On the 8th, Below will arrive, and on the 9th, the second season of Haunted Hotel.
HBO Max will add Evil Dead Burn on October 2, while Movistar Plus+ will incorporate Colony on the 14th, Never Let Go on the 15th, Whistle on the 21st, Drop on the 23rd, Portal to Hell on the 28th, Good Boy on the 29th, and Hokum on the 30th.
Filmin will also bet on classic horror during Halloween. On October 2, Death Proof and Possessor will arrive; on the 27th, Cutting Class; and on the 30th, a true session of nostalgia and cult with The Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho, 1976's Carrie, and Misery.
Disney+ will not be left out either: SOULM8TE will arrive on October 1, Coven Academy on the 2nd, and the thirteenth season of American Horror Story will incorporate new episodes every Friday until October 30, when its final chapter will premiere.
And October still holds many more stories
Beyond horror and big premieres, the platforms' calendar is full of different proposals. Prime Video adds titles during the month such as Piedad (October 1), Prefiero la muerte (2), Love of Your Life and the third season of Helluva Boss (14), Masterplan and Haciendo amigos (16), Los hilos del miedo (19), the second season of La lista final (21) and Drive: Los farsantes (28).
Disney+ expands its programming with SOULM8TE, Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Desatado on October 1; Tokyo Revengers: La Guerra de las Tres Bandas and Coven Academy on the 2nd; Spy x Family on the 4th; Vampirina: Un insti de miedo and Amor, dulce amor on the 7th; the eighth season of Las Kardashian on the 8th; and Me estafaron and Fire Force on the 18th.
Movistar Plus+ adds titles such as El otro Chiquito (October 1), Cleaner: Rescate vertical (2), Dos días (5), Iván & Hadoum (6), Big Mood (7), El castillo (8), Outcome (12), La bala (14), Los últimos días de María Antonieta (19), Morir no siempre sale bien (20), Gail Daughtry y el vale por un rollo VIP and Negocios turbios (22), Viva and La cita (23), Viaje al país de los blancos (25), En el camino (27), Portal to Hell (28), Un buen chico and the third season of Doc (29), and Sacrificio and Hokum (30 and 31).
SkyShowtime will also premiere The Five Star Weekend on October 16, with Jennifer Garner, and the fourth season of Tulsa King on the 22nd. Apple TV+ will premiere Nocturno on October 30, with Liev Schreiber, Stephen Graham, and Zazie Beetz, and will also incorporate the second season of Pequeños profetas on the 7th and that of Buscando a Wanda on the 21st.
For its part, Filmin will complete the month with The Weight of Justice (October 6), The Serpent Queen (13), Revancha (20) and Second Season (27), in addition to its usual commitment to international and auteur cinema.
October thus becomes one of the busiest months of the year for film and television. There's horror to arrive scared for Halloween, big productions for the big screen, new seasons to reunite with familiar characters, and a long list of less media-hyped titles that complete a particularly varied lineup. Because, although the calendar has Halloween as one of its main protagonists, October brings premieres much beyond scares.
