Pepa Bueno adds a new recognition to one of the most consolidated careers in Spanish journalism. The director and presenter of RTVE's Telediario 2 has been honored with the Joan Ramón Mainat 2026 Award from the Vitoria-Gasteiz Television Festival, an award that highlights more than three decades of career in radio, print media, and television.

The jury highlighted her "extensive and prestigious career," as well as the rigor, solvency, and personality she has demonstrated throughout her career in analyzing current events. A recognition that also comes after an especially outstanding season at the helm of La 1's nightly news program, to which she returned in September 2025, thirteen years after her previous stint at TVE.

Her return to public television has been accompanied by significant audience results. Telediario 2 closed the 2025-2026 season with its largest historical growth, reaching an average of 1.55 million viewers and a 14% share, in addition to registering its best result in 14 years. In July, the news program once again stood out by becoming the leader in its time slot and reaching a 17.9% share.

Bueno's career began at RNE and continued at TVE, where she worked on different programs until taking over Telediario 2 between 2009 and 2012. She then had an extensive period at Cadena SER, where she presented Hoy por Hoy and directed Hora 25, before taking over the direction of El País in 2021. In 2025, she returned to RTVE to reclaim one of the most relevant positions in her career.

Throughout this last season, in addition to hosting the news program, Bueno has participated in different special coverages and has presented the videopodcast La semana, a format dedicated to the analysis and contextualization of current events. Her career has been previously recognized with awards such as the Ondas, the Micrófono de Oro, and the Francisco Cerecedo for Journalism.
