Pope Leo XIV has launched a forceful message during his intervention at the Port of Arguineguín, in the Canary Islands, where he has made a direct call to Europe and the international community to strengthen their commitment to human dignity in the context of migratory routes.

In his speech, the pontiff warned that Europe “cannot proclaim human dignity and get used to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic being cemeteries without tombstones,” in reference to the tragedies of migrants at sea and the need for a more robust response to this phenomenon.

The Pope also addressed a message to the international community, urging it to promote “effective and persevering” cooperation that allows addressing the root causes of migration and improving the protection of the most vulnerable people.

The intervention at the port of Arguineguín is part of the social agenda of his visit, marked by messages focused on solidarity, welcome, and the defense of human rights, in one of the key points of the migratory phenomenon towards the Canary Islands.
