Rodrigo Cuevas has taken advantage of his debut as a collaborator on El Intermedio to speak out about the aggression suffered by two young people during the San Mateo festivities in Oviedo. The Asturian singer thus responded to the statements of the city's mayor, Alfredo Canteli, who stated that he did not believe the alleged aggressors were "such bad people".

The events took place during the early hours of the first day of the festivities, when two members of the Asociación Moza d’Asturies (AMA) confronted a group of eight young people who, according to published accounts, were trying to remove a rainbow flag from the collective's booth. The two activists, Rubén Rosón and Jorge Fernández, ended up being beaten and had to receive medical attention.

"You can't go around beating people up and be good people"

From the set of the laSexta program, Cuevas was emphatic when referring to the words of the mayor of Oviedo. "Call me bold for making this statement, but I think it's absolutely a no, you can't go around beating people up and be good people," the artist affirmed.

The singer also focused on the social response that the attack has provoked. As he explained during his intervention, 5,000 people participated last weekend in a protest demonstration and pointed out that a new mobilization is planned for this Saturday. Cuevas described this citizen reaction as "a hopeful thing".

The controversy surrounding Canteli's response has continued in recent days. The victims and various political parties have publicly questioned his statements, while the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has shown his solidarity with the victims and has demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.
