Rosa María Calaf Solé has been honored with the National Television Award 2026, a recognition that underscores her extensive career as one of the great references in television journalism in Spain. The journalist thus joins a list of awardees that includes names such as Jordi Hurtado, Karlos Arguiñano, and Paloma del Río. The award, granted by the Ministry of Culture, is endowed with 30,000 euros.
The jury unanimously decided to grant her the award, considering her figure as a “pioneer of television reporting,” especially highlighting her role as an RTVE correspondent at a time when female presence in news programs was still very limited.
During her career, Calaf carried out her journalistic work in some of the main international centers—such as New York, Moscow, Beijing, and Buenos Aires—consolidating herself as one of the most recognizable voices of Spanish journalism abroad.
The decision also values her contribution to the evolution of television language, by incorporating new forms of narration, a broader perspective on international current affairs, and the introduction of topics unusual for television of her time.
Furthermore, the jury highlighted her professional rigor, her ability to explain complexity with clarity, and her continued commitment to the training of new generations of journalists, even after her retirement from the front line of news.
