RTVE has started filming Chiquito el Grande, a two-episode miniseries that will narrate the life of Gregorio Sánchez Fernández, the artist who captivated the public as Chiquito de la Calzada after decades dedicated to flamenco singing and who achieved fame when he was over 60 years old. The production will be directed by Jacobo Martos and Alfonso Sánchez, who also plays the protagonist.

The fiction, co-produced by Warner Bros. ITVP España, Mundoficción Producciones and RTVE, will cover more than six decades of the comedian's career, from his childhood in post-war Malaga and his years in the flamenco tablaos of the Costa del Sol to the television phenomenon that revolutionized Spanish humor in the nineties. Alongside Alfonso Sánchez, Inma Cuevas will play Pepita, the woman who accompanied Chiquito throughout his life.

The cast is completed by Alberto López, Carlos Bardem, Jesús Carmona, Antonio Dechent, Carmen Avilés, Joaquín Núñez, Mari Paz Sayago and Leonor Lavado, who will play some of the key characters in the artist's personal and professional career.

Filming will take place entirely in Andalusia, with locations in Malaga, Seville and the RTVE Production Center in Andalusia. The corporation also highlights its commitment to Andalusian talent, both in front of and behind the cameras, with a technical and artistic team mostly linked to the community.

Beyond reviewing the television phenomenon that turned Chiquito de la Calzada into an icon of humor, the miniseries aims to offer an intimate portrait of a man marked by perseverance, humility and love for his profession. RTVE defines the production as a dramatic comedy that will combine emotion and humor to bring the story of one of the most popular and beloved characters on Spanish television to new generations.
