RTVE focuses on Lorca's assassination with the first preview of its new 'true crime' documentary

RTVE has begun to show the first images of Lorca, las horas perdidas (Lorca, the lost hours), one of the projects with which the public corporation commemorates the 90th anniversary of the assassination of Federico García Lorca. The documentary, destined for La 1, opts for a treatment close to true crime to reconstruct the events that led to the arrest and subsequent execution of the Granada poet.

The project combines historical research, recreations, and archive material to approach Lorca's last hours and review the different hypotheses that still persist around his death. For this, RTVE has relied on historians and researchers who provide new perspectives on an episode that continues to generate questions nine decades later.

One of the most striking elements of the documentary will be the return of Ángel Ruiz to the character of Federico García Lorca. The actor already played the poet in El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time) and now returns to interpret him within the recreations that are part of this public television production.

Lorca, las horas perdidas has already finished filming and will soon arrive on La 1, although RTVE has not yet specified its premiere date. The first trailer thus marks the start of the promotion of a project that aims to bring the figure and death of the poet closer through contemporary audiovisual language.

An anniversary marked by new projects about Lorca

The television documentary is part of a broader program with which RTVE recovers the figure of Lorca coinciding with the anniversary of his assassination. The corporation also participates in different cinematographic projects that will address different stages of the poet's life.

Among them is La voz quebrada (The Broken Voice), a documentary directed by Manuel Menchón, which will arrive in cinemas on October 16 after passing through the San Sebastián Festival. The film is based on personal documents and memories linked to Juan Ramírez de Lucas, considered Lorca's last love, and features Álvaro Morte in the role of the poet.

In addition, Fernando Franco is preparing Lorca, a film that will reconstruct the last weeks of his life, from his departure from Madrid after the outbreak of the Civil War until his execution in Granada. The film, starring among others Nacho Sánchez and Francesco Carril, is scheduled for release in 2027.

The figure of Lorca will also soon reach cinemas not only from RTVE, but also from Los Javis. Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi will premiere La bola negra next September 25, a film that starts from an unfinished work by the poet and intertwines the stories of three men in different eras, with sexuality, desire, pain and heritage as its axes. The film is produced by Movistar Plus+ and Suma Content Films, Los Javis' production company, and has the participation of Atresmedia. Elástica will be in charge of bringing it to cinemas. The film, starring Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Penélope Cruz, Lola Dueñas and Glenn Close, among others, arrives in theaters after conquering the Cannes Film Festival, where Los Javis won the award for Best Director.

Thus, 90 years after the death of Federico García Lorca, his figure once again occupies a prominent place on television and in cinema with several productions that seek to revisit his history and the circumstances surrounding one of the most tragic episodes of 20th century Spanish culture.
