'Cine de Barrio' reinvents itself on RTVE: returns to La 2 with new faces and a renewed look

RTVE is preparing a new stage for Cine de Barrio, one of the public television's most veteran programs. The show will leave La 1 to return to La 2, the channel where it was born in 1995, as part of the programming renewal for the upcoming season.

The format will continue to be an entirely RTVE-produced production and will retain its management structure, with Machús Osinaga at the helm. The new proposal will seek to maintain the connection with regular viewers of classic Spanish films, but incorporating a more contemporary perspective and an approach that facilitates dialogue between different generations.

One of the main novelties will be in the presentations that will precede each film. The space will feature guests from cinema and the cultural and social spheres, who can intervene from different locations to share their personal relationship with the chosen title and provide their own view on the film.

In addition to its regular collaborators, Cine de Barrio will incorporate new faces such as Pablo González Batista, Ángeles Caballero, Alberto Rey, and Juan Sanguino. Their interventions and the new sections will also serve to provide context and keys about the films broadcast.

With 30 years of uninterrupted trajectory, Cine de Barrio has become one of RTVE's historical formats. Its new location on La 2 will allow it to reinforce the channel's Spanish cinema offering alongside programs such as Versión española and Historia de nuestro cine.

The program was born on La 2 during the summer of 1995, although a few months later it moved to La 1. Since then, names such as José Manuel Parada, Carmen Sevilla, Concha Velasco, Alaska, Elena Sánchez, and Inés Ballester, among others, have presented it. The new stage aims to preserve that identity while updating its staging and asserting its function of public service and dissemination of the history of Spanish cinema.
