The big 'late night' shows in the U.S. make viral Trump's attempt to crash Spain's celebration: "You're not on the team!"

The conquest of Spain's second World Cup has not only monopolized sports headlines. The image of Donald Trump remaining on stage during the lifting of the trophy by the Spanish team has also become one of the most talked-about moments in the United States, where several of the main late-night shows have dedicated monologues to ridiculing the scene.

On Late Night, Seth Meyers turned the scene into one of the axes of his monologue. "Someone should tell Trump that he doesn't play on the Spanish national team", he joked, comparing him to Forrest Gump appearing at all the great historical events. The comedian also recalled that the president of FIFA tried to remove him from the stage before the celebration and concluded: "The head of the most corrupt organization on the planet was saying: 'This looks bad'". Meyers also claimed that Rodri tried to indicate to him to leave the stage so the celebration could begin and pointed out the awkward moment when Víctor Muñoz had to stop his celebration because Trump walked in front of him.

The jokes continued on The Tonight Show, where Jimmy Fallon showed images of the celebration and summed up the scene with another jab: "Trump helped deliver the trophy... but then it seemed like he didn't want to leave the stage". The host finished the gag by assuring that the president was watching the players thinking: "We can photoshop these guys out later".

One of the most forceful was Jon Stewart, who began his intervention on The Daily Show by recalling that the moment of lifting the World Cup "is a celebration that belongs only to the players." "What the hell are you doing on the stage? It's for the players!" he exclaimed before going after the president: "Why does everything have to be tainted by Trump's oversized ego?". The host also mocked the president's subsequent statements about the World Cup, caricaturing how, according to the comedian, he would have rated the tournament: "It was four times better than any FIFA". Next, he broke the imitation to make fun of the phrase: "What is a FIFA? How do you hold a FIFA?", then, immediately afterwards, joked by reflecting on whether the man who appeared behind him was "a spare Trump".

The scene, widely spread on social networks and international media, occurred after Trump remained alongside the Spanish footballers during the lifting of the World Cup, a moment traditionally reserved for the champions. The image ended up eclipsing for a few minutes the celebration of La Roja and has ended up becoming one of the most commented on —and parodied— episodes of the 2026 World Cup final.
