RTVE has premiered the first trailer for El director, the new film by Dani de la Orden that will bring to the big screen a story inspired by the experience of journalist David Jiménez at the helm of one of the country's main newspapers. The film, starring David Verdaguer and Alberto San Juan, will premiere in cinemas next November 27.
Based on the eponymous book by Jiménez, the film begins when war correspondent David, after more than two decades covering international conflicts, is appointed director of an important national newspaper. However, his commitment to independent and rigorous journalism clashes from the outset with the business and political interests surrounding the media, represented by the editor Cardenal, played by Alberto San Juan.
According to its creators, El director is "the story of an uphill battle to preserve the values that should define journalism: integrity, honesty, and the objective search for truth". In addition, the film proposes "a critical look at the complex political and social machinery of present-day Spain", built from a realistic visual style very close to documentary.
Along with Verdaguer and San Juan, the cast brings together names such as Fernando Colomo, Xavi Sáez, Miriam Iscla, Joan Carreras, Anna Alarcón, Nacho Fresneda, Pau Durá, Marc Rodríguez, David Vert and Mia Sala-Patau, in addition to the special collaborations of Carmen Machi, Emma Vilarasau, Willy Toledo and Fernando Cayo. The film is produced by Beta Fiction Spain, Sábado Time, Cardinal Content and Historias de un Director SL, with the participation of RTVE.
