María del Monte left one of the most emotional moments of her interview with Aimar Bretos when reflecting on the role she has ended up occupying as a reference for many lesbian women in Spain. During her conversation on La noche de Aimar, the artist recognized that for years she had not been fully aware of the suffering that many people from the collective continue to experience. “As I have been a very fortunate person, I have never thought that there were people who could have a very, very bad time”, she confessed.
The singer explained that everything changed when she made direct contact with that harsh reality and understood to what extent many families still have to face social rejection. “You cannot have to accompany your son or your daughter to a demonstration to ask permission to be able to love each other. It seems like an atrocity to me”, she stated emphatically.
María del Monte also launched a reflection that quickly began to be shared on social media: “We are losing our minds. We are losing it a little bit. It is always much nicer to see two people kissing than to see two people slapping each other”. A phrase that many viewers have applauded for its defense of love and freedom.
The artist, who in recent years has become one of the most visible and beloved voices of the collective on television, made it clear that there is still a long way to go to fully normalize relationships between people of the same sex.
