Juan y Medio made a forceful intervention last night on the program La Noche de Aimar, where he has harshly denounced the situation of loneliness suffered by many elderly people in Spain, which he even referred to as “a crime against humanity”.

The communicator described the daily life of those who, after a lifetime of work, family, and experiences, end up living in isolation after the loss of their loved ones or the independence of their children. “There are people who have had a complete life and everyone has left. The children flew away, their wife died, their husband… and they are in the corner of a table watching time pass”, he stated during his reflection.

Juan y Medio also criticized the role of current society and the impact of television and social networks, considering that they offer a distorted image of reality. “On social media everyone is having a blast, faker than all posturing”, he pointed out, focusing on the contrast with the real situation of many elderly people.

The presenter also emphasized the physical and emotional difficulties that aggravate this loneliness, such as illnesses, loss of mobility, or daily limitations, and warned that this situation can last for decades if no intervention is made: “She has a little vertigo, today she has diabetes, she doesn't see well, she used to sew, she can no longer sew, arthritis doesn't let her. And now at this moment of her life, without ever having harmed anyone, is she alone? Where is social justice? How many years does she have left? Well, with the medicines and treatments available now, maybe that creature has 25 years left of being at the small table. What is this?”

Against this, he defended a response based on the direct involvement of society and families, demanding active accompaniment and constant presence. “We have to go for them, incorporate them into our lives”, he affirmed, before insisting on the importance of respect and daily attention to the elderly as a collective responsibility. “We are going to be attentive to them. First, the family members, out of pure responsibility. You don't love them? No, I'll buy that. Respect them. Not tolerate, because I have such a disgust for tolerance that I can't stand it. Tolerance places an individual in a superior situation and then I let you do what you do. I tolerate you. What do you mean you tolerate me? You respect me.”
