The Mixed Commission for Parliamentary Control of RTVE experienced a tense exchange this Thursday between the president of the RTVE Corporation, José Pablo López, and the PP deputy Eduardo Carazo, which ended with a forceful reply from the head of the public entity.
During his speech, Carazo criticized RTVE's informative line and assured that, in a hypothetical museum of disinformation, there should be a “Telepedro Room”, in allusion to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
In his turn to respond, José Pablo López did not let the statement pass and returned the blow: “If there were a museum of disinformation, the main room should be occupied by the Popular Party for its informative management after 11M”, in reference to the actions of the PP Government in the hours after the attacks of March 11, 2004, as well as the documentary they broadcast.
The response provoked reactions among the members of the commission and raised the tone of the debate on RTVE's informative independence and the role of the public corporation. This exchange adds to the usual confrontations between the PP and the RTVE management during parliamentary control sessions, where the corporation's management and editorial line tend to be attacked during the session.
