The Málaga Film Festival 2026 warms up engines: programming, Biznagas and tributes you can't miss

The 29th edition of the competition, from March 6 to 15, promises 263 screenings, national and international premieres, and great figures of Spanish and Ibero-American cinema on the red carpet

The Málaga Film Festival 2026 will kick off this Friday with an agenda full of cinema, culture and parallel activities, and from 'ElConstitucional.es' we will try to broadcast to you the highlights of the 29th edition. This year, the Cervantes Theater is once again the epicenter of the event, which will screen 263 audiovisuals including films, shorts, documentaries and other formats from March 6 to 15. The Official Competition Section includes 12 Spanish films and 10 Latin American films, in addition to 21 titles out of competition, including the closing gala.

The cultural program offers sections like Zonazine, dedicated to independent cinema, documentary series, Cinema Cocina for gastronomy lovers, tributes to film figures, rescues of classic works and complementary activities such as meetings with professionals, debates, workshops, exhibitions and outdoor screenings. The industry also has its space with MAFIZ, to promote new projects and co-productions.

 
Some of the moments that are expected to be highlighted:
  • The Golden Film dedicated to Jaime Chávarri and The Disenchantment, screened at the Christine Ruiz-Picasso Auditorium.

  • The Sea Villa, on La Malagueta beach, with concerts, workshops and masterclasses on audiovisual.

  • Focus Panama, country of honor, and tributes to Latin American directors such as Fabián Bielinsky.

  • Retrospectives of Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, reviewing the cinematographic career of the Argentine duo.

What will be the main tributes?
  • Málaga-Sur Award to Rossy de Palma.

  • Ricardo Franco-Film Academy Award to Manuela Ocón Aburto.

  • Málaga Talent-La Opinión de Málaga Award for Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, recent winner at the Goya 2026.

  • Acknowledgements also for Francisco Lombardi, Victoria Vera and Natalia Oreiro.

 
Where to buy the tickets and see the audiovisual works

Tickets can be purchased at the box offices of the Cervantes Theater, Echegaray and Albéniz Cinema or through the festival's website. Prices vary according to the type of screening and location: general screenings from 8 to 15 euros and galas between 16 and 30 euros.
