TVE opted this Monday for a very special edition of Telediario 2 hosted by Pepa Bueno, focused on analyzing the impact of artificial intelligence on society and the challenges it poses in distinguishing between reality and fiction. The program began with a demonstration that left viewers bewildered: seemingly real images of fires and emergency services that, in reality, had been entirely created using AI.

The journalist herself took the experiment a step further by revealing that neither the set shown on screen nor, for a few seconds, her own image and voice were real. “What is real, what is fiction?”, Bueno asked before physically appearing in the studio to warn about the capacity of this technology to fabricate scenes practically indistinguishable from reality.

Throughout the broadcast, the news program showed examples of how artificial intelligence can recreate historical events or generate content capable of altering the collective perception of facts. “It’s not just about manipulating scenes, it’s about manipulating our memory,” the journalist warned during one of the most commented reflections of the night.
The special concluded with a message in defense of journalism and critical thinking in the face of new technological challenges. The proposal was widely celebrated by the audience on social media, where numerous users highlighted the innovation of the format. Among the most repeated comments were messages such as: "Today's Telediario deserves at least an Emmy", "A masterclass in journalism" or "Pure public service", consolidating the program as one of the most applauded spaces of the day.
What @PepaBueno did tonight on Telediario is pure public service. AI, its capacity for manipulation and for generating alternative narratives, in prime time and in a didactic tone. pic.twitter.com/7bS5TF7SFj

Today's #Telediario deserves at least an Emmy. What a way to keep me glued to the television like it had been a long time. They served cinema, a masterclass in journalism, tension, well-used AI, and Pepa Bueno traveling through time. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 @telediario_tve
