'The Tunnel' is here: Jesús Vázquez premieres a contest on RTVE where knowing is not always enough

RTVE opens a new stage in its commitment to entertainment with the premiere of El Túnel: avanza y gana, the new contest show arriving on La 1 with Jesús Vázquez at the helm. The format, produced by RTVE in collaboration with Fremantle España, proposes a competition where knowing more than the rival will not always be enough to achieve victory. Strategy, intuition, and the ability to read opponents will be some of the keys to advancing to the grand prize.

The contest brings together 32 participants, who begin the competition with an assigned monetary amount. However, it will be the Tunnel itself that determines who enters the game and in what category they must face another contestant. Before choosing a rival, the player can consult the other participants to try to discover who masters a certain subject. The problem is that no one is obliged to tell the truth, so each choice can become a true psychological game.

Once the two contenders are chosen, the duel begins. Both must answer general knowledge questions while advancing or retreating through the great tunnel that gives the program its name. The path consists of ten steps and the goal is to reach the end before the adversary. In addition, the so-called Premium Categories will introduce special confrontations with additional money, capable of significantly altering the standings and further increasing the tension of the competition.

The winner will not only take the money accumulated by their rival but will also have to face one of the most important decisions of the contest: continue playing to maintain control over future confrontations or withdraw to secure their winnings. The competition will unfold over four episodes until a grand finale between two contestants, where a surprise twist will modify the rules. Only one will definitively cross El Túnel and claim the 150,000 euros.
