The victims of the Oviedo aggression demand that Feijóo and Abascal speak out: "Do they also believe that an unconscious person can be kicked for being left-wing?"

The victims of the aggression recorded in Oviedo during the San Mateo festivities, Rubén Rosón and Jorge Fernández, spoke this Monday on TVE's Mañaneros 360 program to explain what happened and respond to the statements made later by the city's mayor, Alfredo Canteli, of the Popular Party.

During the interview, both harshly questioned the assessment of the Oviedo mayor, whom they reproach for having downplayed the aggression and for having stated that the perpetrators of the acts "were not such bad people". The victims consider it especially serious that an aggression in which, according to them, they received blows and kicks when they were on the ground, can be defined as an "anecdote".

"We directly ask Feijóo: does Feijóo think the same as the mayor of the Popular Party of the Oviedo City Council?", Rubén Rosón asked during the interview. The affected parties have demanded that the president of the PP speak out publicly and that, if he does not share Canteli's words, he ask him to retract them. "We urgently request him to come out and ask the mayor of the Oviedo City Council to directly retract these words", they stated, calling the way in which, in their opinion, the aggression has been treated a "vile act".

One of the most forceful moments of the interview came when Jorge Fernández explained the possible consequences that the attack could have had. A doctor by profession, he stressed that he knows the risks of hitting an unconscious person on the head while they are on the ground. "I am a doctor, I know what happens if you kick an unconscious person in the head while they are on the ground," he explained. "We could have perfectly died from this aggression", he added.

Fernández also pointed out that even in combat sports it is forbidden to continue hitting a person who is defenseless. "It is forbidden because people are killed", he affirmed.

The victims have thus rejected that what happened can be considered simply a fight or a minor incident. In their opinion, the images show a particularly serious aggression and they believe that the institutional response should be commensurate with what happened. They also referred to another of the expressions attributed to the mayor of Oviedo, when he would have stated that "it's always the same ones who appear". Asked during the interview if they believe Canteli was referring to them with those words, they replied yes.

From there, those affected have extended their criticism to the Popular Party and Vox and have demanded that their leaders clarify their position on the aggression. "The important thing would be for all of us to be clear whether this is a matter of Alfredo Canteli, of Vox in Asturias, of the mayor of Oviedo from the PP, or if it is the general doctrine that Vox and the PP have at the state level," they stated.

For this reason, they have also directed their request to the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, and to the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. "We ask Abascal and Feijóo to make it clear if they also believe that unconscious people on the ground can be kicked in the head as long as we are left-wing," they demanded.

Those affected also wanted to make it clear that they do not believe the issue should be reduced to a confrontation between left-wing and right-wing people. One of them explained that he works as a family doctor and that during these days he has received messages from right-wing patients who were outraged by what happened. "I have a lot of right-wing patients who these days, elderly ladies, wrote to me, told me they are horrified by the aggression and that they don't understand how the PP, the right-wing parties, Vox has also done it, can position themselves on the side of the aggressors with something that is so clear," he recounted.

In his opinion, the images allow understanding the seriousness of the events without needing to enter into too many interpretations. "Not so many explanations are needed," he defended. "I think anyone who sees the video where four people punch and kick an unconscious person in the head on the ground knows whose side they are on."

The conversation has also addressed the possible ideological motivation of the aggressors and the presence of an LGTBI flag at the location where the victims were. Asked if they believe the flag could have been an element that motivated hatred or violence, they have responded affirmatively. According to their account, the confrontation began before the physical aggressions, when a group of people came to the place to remove the flag and an anti-racist banner.

"Of course. The aggression begins when eight people come to tear down the LGTBI flag," they explained. "They come to tear down a banner that said 'let racism not invade us,' an anti-racist banner, and they come to hit us," they added. The affected parties therefore consider that the context in which the aggression occurred is relevant to understanding what happened and maintain that the presence of LGTBI symbols and messages against racism was part of the trigger for the confrontation.

The aggression has provoked a strong political and social reaction in Asturias. The victims have demanded that what happened not be normalized and that institutions unequivocally condemn any act of violence, regardless of the ideology of those who commit it.

The focus is now also on the response of the main national leaders of PP and Vox. Rosón and Fernández want Feijóo and Abascal to clarify whether they share or reject the statements attributed to the mayor of Oviedo and, above all, to make it clear that an aggression like the one they denounce cannot be considered a mere "anecdote".

For the victims, the debate should not focus solely on their political positions, but on the seriousness of images in which, they denounce, a person receives punches and kicks when defenseless on the ground. That is why they insist on demanding a clear political condemnation and an institutional response that, in their opinion, leaves no room for the minimization of violence.
