"They've kicked me out of all the others": Quequé arrives at La Séptima and dedicates an ironic joke to his "new boss," Javier Ruiz

Héctor de Miguel, Quequé, has arrived at La Séptima ready to do what he does best: put humor at the center. The comedian explained during the presentation of the new channel how he ended up joining the project and what his role will be on a television that bets on live content, current affairs, and entertainment.

Quequé's answer to the question of how he ended up at La Séptima was as simple as it was irreverent: “They've kicked me out of all the others.” The comedian used irony to explain his career until he landed at the new channel and even joked about his television future: “So I'm already preparing the ground for when the eighth [channel] is born, so they can sign me again and this crazy wheel I've gotten into continues, which is about working as much as possible and contributing as much as possible.”

Beyond the joke, Quequé explained that he had time to carefully consider the proposal before accepting. His role at La Séptima will be directly linked to comedy and entertainment, with a commitment that does not want to be limited to political satire. “My job will be to give voice and give image and give life to the world of comedy, of all kinds of comedy,” he said. “Of course there will be political satire, but comedy of all kinds and the more the better,” he added, making it clear that he intends to open the doors of the new channel to a broad representation of the world of humor.

This strategy will also include professionals from other countries. Quequé argued that “the more comedians who can pass through this Séptima window the better” and even pointed to Latin America: “If we can even bring them or have them come from Latin America, then even better, because we want to give as much voice as possible to comedy.”

Quequé makes Javier Ruiz the target of his joke

One of the funniest moments of his intervention came when Quequé spoke about Javier Ruiz, editorial director of La Séptima and, from now on, one of his superiors within the channel. The comedian, who stated that he felt “proud” to participate in the project, built a long gag around the figure of the journalist who always has a fact ready, deliberately taking the caricature to the extreme.

“When at one point I was told that my boss was going to be Javier Ruiz”, Quequé recounted before beginning his particular humorous portrait. The comedian assured, in an evidently ironic tone, that out of his 25-year career, probably 20 he has had to “put up with Javier Ruiz”, who is one of those people who “you walk through the corridors wherever and he arrives, approaches you and gives you a piece of data”.

From there, Quequé exaggerated Ruiz's supposed obsession with numbers to build the joke: “Before, he told me that 22.2% of this channel are from Salamanca”. The comedian continued accumulating fictitious examples of that caricature —“it has gone up..., it has gone down...”— until he finished it with a new exaggeration: “In reality, he has no idea about economics, but he plays with the advantage that neither do we”, he blurted out amidst laughter. The phrase is part of the parody tone used by Quequé throughout his intervention, in which he turned Ruiz into the character of that omniscient journalist who constantly appears with statistics and data under his arm, even previously stating that if he had known before signing the contract "he would have asked for different money".

The comedian found, precisely, a way to close the gag by taking advantage of his new professional relationship with the editorial director. “The only thing that makes me happy about having Javier Ruiz as a boss is that if my program fails, it will be my boss's fault: Javier Ruiz”, he concluded, in a final ironic twist to the joke.

With this intervention, Quequé made it clear what his role in La Séptima will be: to champion comedy in all its forms, from political satire to new spaces for Spanish and Latin American comedians, and to continue making room for humor within a channel that is preparing a program with a strong presence of live content and entertainment.
