The life of Rocío Jurado will soon come to fiction. RTVE and Movistar Plus have joined forces to produce Rocío, a four-episode miniseries that will review the personal and professional trajectory of one of the great voices of Spanish music. The production, made by Boomerang TV, has just finished filming after several weeks of work between Madrid and Chipiona.

The fiction aims to reconstruct the artist's life from her early years until her consolidation as La Más Grande, covering both the moments that marked her career and those episodes of her private life that helped build the character who ended up becoming an icon of Spanish popular culture.

Two actresses to bring Rocío Jurado to life

One of the great challenges of the production has been to represent Rocío Jurado at different moments of her life. For this, the series features two lead actresses.

Carmen Raigón plays Rocío during her youth, while Susana Córdoba takes on the character in her adult stage. Both will be responsible for showing the evolution of an artist who began her journey in Chipiona and ended up conquering stages inside and outside of Spain.

The cast is completed with names such as Martiño Rivas, Miquel Fernández, Víctor Clavijo, Antonio Velázquez, Adelfa Calvo, Teresa Hurtado de Ory, Javier Veiga, Miguel Hermoso, Jaime López Almagro, Marta Hoyos, Raquel Infantes and María de la Luz, among others.

In total, the fiction brings together 74 characters and nearly 2,000 extras, a figure that gives an idea of the dimensions of a production that aims to reconstruct different eras and scenarios of the singer's life.

More than 66 locations to reconstruct her story

Filming began in mid-June and has taken place mainly between Chipiona and Madrid, two fundamental places in Rocío Jurado's personal and professional history.

The production has used more than 66 real locations and settings, with recognizable spaces such as Finca Yerbabuena, the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Regla, the Lara and Calderón Theaters, the Palacio de la Trinidad, the Hotel Meliá Castilla, the Railway Museum, and the González Byass Wineries.

The choice of these locations aims for the fiction to transport the viewer to different moments in the singer's career without being limited to recreating her story on sets.

From Chipiona to the big stages

Rocío will begin its journey in the artist's childhood in Chipiona, before accompanying her on her arrival in Madrid and in the first steps of a career that would eventually turn her into an international star.

The series will follow her main professional stages, her musical successes, her travels, and her leap outside of Spain. But the production does not want to focus solely on the Rocío Jurado who appeared on stage. The fiction will also focus on the woman behind the public figure, showing her different facets as a daughter, friend, wife, and mother. In this way, the story will combine the great events of her career with those personal aspects that marked her life.

The portrait of a woman and an era

The production will also use Rocío Jurado's biography to reconstruct part of Spain's social and cultural evolution during the decades in which she developed her career. The artist became a figure who transcended music and managed to project her image far beyond our borders. For this reason, the series also aims to show the context of an era and the transformations that accompanied the singer throughout her career.

Behind the project is Aurora Guerra, creator of the series and responsible for the scripts along with Juan Beiro. Humberto Miró serves as director and David Montoya as second unit director, while Luis Santamaría is the executive producer for Boomerang TV.

With filming already finished, Rocío is now preparing to bring to the screen the story of an artist whose life was marked by great stages, international successes, and enormous public repercussion. A fiction that promises to get close to both Rocío Jurado, the star, as well as the woman who existed behind her.
