‘La bola negra’, the new film by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, already has a trailer. After winning the award for best direction at the Cannes Film Festival, Los Javis are preparing the premiere in Spain of one of the films with the greatest international projection of the season, which will arrive in cinemas next September 25.

The film is an original production by Movistar Plus+ and Suma Content Films, in co-production with El Deseo and Le Pacte and with the participation of Atresmedia. Elastica will be in charge of distributing in Spain its 155 minutes of footage, built around three stories separated by several decades.

Lorca's legacy spans three eras

‘La bola negra’ takes its title from an unfinished work by Federico García Lorca and tells the interconnected lives of three men in 1932, 1937 and 2017. Their stories are united by sexuality and desire, pain, memory and a heritage that continues to pass from one generation to another.

Calvo and Ambrossi have conceived the film as a bridge between Lorca's emotional legacy and contemporary audiences. The directors also explore the silence that for decades surrounded the lives of many homosexual men and the difficulty of transmitting their experiences to those who grew up later with more consolidated rights and freedoms.

The story is backed by the award for best direction that Los Javis shared in Cannes with Polish filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski. This recognition has placed ‘La bola negra’ among the main Spanish contenders for the upcoming international awards season.

A cast that mixes big stars and new faces

Guitarricadelafuente leads the cast in his first acting experience. Alongside him appear Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González and Milo Quifes, as well as Lola Dueñas, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close, three of the most recognized names in the film.

The cast is completed by Antonio de la Torre, Natalia de Molina, Julio Torres, Lorenzo Zurzolo, Albert Pla, Mona Martínez, Yenesi, Nuria Mencía, Hugo Welzel, María Morales, Antonio Dechent and Alberto Cortés. Los Javis thus once again combine established performers with debutant actors, a formula present in a good part of their previous works.

Judeline also makes the leap to cinema with this film and joins a large group of debutants. The artist will also perform a new version of ‘Soldadito español’, included in the soundtrack.

After its journey through Cannes and the release of this first trailer, ‘La bola negra’ now faces its arrival to the public. The film will premiere in Spanish cinemas on September 25, in the midst of the opening of a film season marked by festivals and major awards.
