The Sánchez Government approves the housing decree in the Council of Ministers after Maricarmen's eviction, live: latest news on negotiations, political reactions and the keys

The spokesperson for the Tenants' Union, Alicia del Río, has spoken out about the approval of two housing decrees. In this regard, she does not back down against Pedro Sánchez's Government and urges to approve only one. 

Juan Avello, president of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), has spoken out after the approval of the housing decrees by the Central Government. "It is not good to legislate in the heat of the moment," Avello assured.

"What we judges do is apply that law and respect it. That is the democratic system. But I believe it is not good to legislate based on specific social realities. It is not good to legislate in the heat of the moment. Any type of decision adopted regarding the housing market generates significant effects," declared the judge.

Yolanda Díaz, second vice-president and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, stated on her Bluesky profile that these two decrees represent "the greatest advance in housing matters in the last decade" and that it has been "thanks to citizen mobilization, to Maricarmen and to the thousands of people in the streets."

For her part, Mónica García, Minister of Health, assured that her political space has achieved what "was unimaginable" a month ago, and attributed the approval of the decrees to the mobilizations and encampments.

Congress is preparing a plenary session for this Friday to validate or repeal the decrees approved this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers, according to parliamentary sources.

Miguel Ángel García Martín, regional minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, sent a requirement this Tuesday giving the Government delegate 48 hours to lift the housing protest camp taking place in Puerta del Sol. Furthermore, he warned of possible legal actions if the measure is not complied with.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the PP, has stated that the housing decrees that the Government has managed to pass will not yield results. "I ask for my turn. And my turn consists of increasing the supply," declared the leader of the PP. Furthermore, he indicated that the "damage" is already done and that "the culprits will not be able to repair it."

Ione Belarra, general secretary of Podemos, called the housing decree being prepared by the Government a "joke" during the press conference in Congress and expressed her opposition to splitting the measures into several texts. Furthermore, she described the Executive's response to the mobilizations as "lamentable."

After the negotiations that took place prior to the start of the Council of Ministers, the PSOE and Sumar agreed to approve the housing decree. 

Joseba Díez Antxustegi, parliamentary spokesperson for the PNV, assured that his party will not support the housing decree that the Central Government seeks to promote, "if it puts vulture funds and small owners at the same level." In addition, he has asked that negotiations be carried out calmly since "a decree cannot be approved from one day to the next because there is a certain discomfort in the streets."
