Andalucía has achieved a historic milestone in the labor market by minimizing the unemployment difference with the national average. The gap stands at 3.83 points, the best record since the National Institute of Statistics (INE) collects comparable data, which dates back to 1976. This data marks a turning point in a community traditionally punished by unemployment rates much higher than the rest of the country.

The Andalusian unemployment rate closed the first quarter of 2026 at 14.66%, exactly the same figure with which it ended 2025. This is an unprecedented event: it is the first time in history that unemployment in Andalusia remains identical from one quarter to another.

This behavior contrasts with the whole of Spain, where the unemployment rate increased by 0.9 points during the same period. This national rebound has allowed Andalusia to further shorten the distance, surpassing the previous historical low of 3.96 points recorded in 2006 and also in 1982.

The improvement is even more significant if the long-term evolution is observed. Andalucía registered its worst figure in the first quarter of 2013, with an unemployment rate of 36.77%. Since then, the decrease has been of 22.11 points, which evidences a profound transformation of the labor market in little more than a decade.

The Andalusian Government, led by Juanma Moreno, attributes these advances to the economic policies applied in recent years, focused on attracting investment, boosting the business fabric and favoring job creation. The sustained reduction in unemployment and the convergence with the national average are presented as proof of the change in trend in the community.

With these data, Andalusia not only reduces its historical disadvantage, but also progressively approaches the employment levels of the country as a whole. A scenario that, if maintained, could consolidate the community as one of the emerging engines of economic growth in Spain.
