EH Bildu reiterated this Tuesday its "most absolute rejection" of the incidents recorded this Monday in Bilbao, which occurred after the end of the mobilizations called in response to the presence of the far-right agitator Vito Quiles, who finally did not appear in the Biscayan capital and suspended the event he had planned.

In a statement, the sovereignist formation stressed that it does not share these behaviors, which it considers "violent and antisocial", and warned that they harm coexistence and directly affect the well-being of residents, merchants and citizens in general.

"The response to fascism must be peaceful"

EH Bildu expressed its solidarity "to all those affected" by the serious incidents in Bilbao and insisted that its anti-fascist stance does not admit the use of violence. "We are anti-fascists, and precisely for this reason, we believe that the response to fascism and the far-right must be developed exclusively through peaceful and democratic means," it said.

The formation added that "not every action carried out in the name of anti-fascism contributes to that objective" and warned that those that "lead to violence or vandalism end up favoring the interests of the reactionary bloc."

Mobilizations, social support and broad majorities

According to EH Bildu, the mobilizations held throughout the day constituted "an example of a democratic, plural and collective response to hate speech." The organization highlighted that "hundreds of people" participated in them, along with various social movements, in a response shared by broad sectors of Bilbao society.

The formation also recalled decisions such as the suspension of academic activity by the University of Deusto, and defended that the response to fascism involves "building and adding democratic and broad majorities", in addition to confronting hate speech through social mobilization and the defense of democratic values.

"That is the path that a majority of Bilbao society has shown to follow on numerous occasions," EH Bildu pointed out, reiterating its rejection of "yesterday's regrettable actions in Bilbo" and its solidarity with all those who have been affected by them.
