Emiliano García-Page has turned this Sunday the celebration of the Day of Castilla-La Mancha in Cuenca into a firm vindication of the role of the institutions born from the Transition and of the democratic strength of the country. The regional president has defended the value of the 1978 Constitution, has lashed out against any attempt at territorial privilege, and has shown explicit support for the Judiciary, the Armed Forces, and the State security forces.

“We are with the guarantee of a Constitution that ensures all diversity, but prohibits any type of privilege”, García-Page stated during his speech at the Teatro Auditorio José Luis Perales, where he insisted that Castilla-La Mancha will not consent to inequalities between territories. “Neither first-class leagues nor second-class leagues”, the socialist leader vindicated in one of the most political speeches of recent months.

The regional president has also strongly defended the role of democratic institutions against those who question their legitimacy. “The first obligation of a public official is to defend institutions”, he assured, before thanking “from the bottom of his heart” the work of judges, prosecutors, Guardia Civil, Policía Nacional, and Armed Forces. In his opinion, all of them are the fruit of the “fifty years of democracy” built after the Transition.

During the institutional act, García-Page also claimed that Spain “is not a failed State” and defended the capacity of the democratic system to correct itself and face crises. “The foundations of this land and this country are very solid,” he stated before some 700 people gathered in the Cuenca auditorium to celebrate the Day of Castilla-La Mancha.

The regional president has also taken advantage of his speech to announce an important urban and social project for the city of Cuenca. The regional Government has “practically” closed an agreement with the Tesorería de la Seguridad Social and with the Ministerio de Vivienda to transform the old Hospital Virgen de la Luz into a large complex with hundreds of homes, a provincial historical archive, a base center, and new mental health units.

Under the motto "With things clear", the celebration of Castilla-La Mancha Day has also served to recognize 36 people and entities for their contribution to the development of the region. García-Page has awarded Gold Medals, appointments of Favorite Sons and plaques for regional merit in a ceremony marked by regional pride and the defense of the Castilian-Manchegan identity.

The event has featured the presence of the entire regional Government Council, institutional, trade union, business, judicial, and military representatives, in addition to numerous local and provincial authorities. The day has been accompanied by musical performances and constant references to territorial cohesion, equality, and the value of public services as pillars of the political project defended by the regional Executive.
